O’Brien Park Parker Colorado

Aug 28th 09

filed under: Fun Things to Do, Just Cool Photos

Took the kids over to O’Brien Park this afternoon. O’Brien Park works great for an hour or two of wearing out kids. If you’re looking for fun things to do in Pakre Colorado with kids I highly suggest this park. The ice cream shop across the street makes for a quick treat too.

A Guided Fly Fishing Trip Makes for a Fun Day in Colorado

Fly Fish Colorado

Fly Fish Colorado

If you want to have fun in Colorado try fly fishing. This Parker Colorado real estate broker had a super fun day. Anytime you fish remember  fishing with kids is big fun and kids really learn a lot about the Colorado way of life which is to love and respect and of course protect the great outdoors. We didn’t take kids with us on this day but we sure had fun fishing The North Fork of the Platte River on the North Fork Ranch. We actually fished a private section call The Meadows with Guide Tad Howard the Owner of Colorado Trout Hunters. More about Tad later…

Come November it will be one year since I lost one of my very best friends Jerry Gregory. He died tragically on a beautiful weekend morning by falling off his mule while riding with his wife Sue down in Wescliffe Colorado. Since moving to Colorado I can say that just about everything I ever did outside that involved hunting or fishing was with Jerry. It’s been tough to get back into fishing or hunting without him.

A few weeks ago Jerry’s son Brian called me and asked if I would join him on a day trip with a guide to the river and spot where he last fished with his Dad. It was the last day he spent with his dad before he died last year. He had taken Jerry there for his birthday and they had a blast.

The night before our trip Brian sent me an email telling me don’t bring my net unless it can hold at least a 20 inch fish. I laughed and didn’t respond. I assumed he was just joking. NOPE he was telling the truth. Barely a fish caught under 20 inches all day. For me this was huge. I had never caught a trout in a river that large before. The public waters I have fished just didn’t have huge fish in them or maybe I just didn’t get them? For a full day we fished as hard as two guys could and I caught and landed more fish than ever before. Thanks mostly to Tad Howard our truly professional guide.

Tad Howard of Colorado Trout Hunters is a super nice guy and without a doubt the best guide, and fish spotter you will ever come across. Just walking the sides of the river he can spot fish and tell you exactly where to cast and 99% of the time I never saw the fish even when he told me where to cast and exactly where to look. I don’t know how he does it but he can see fish most people just cannot see. It has to be the years of experience on the river that give him this ability. Tad would say…

“walk over here beside me and be still. There are 4 fish together over there and 2 in that area. The biggest fish is over in the spot just ahead of the 4 fish together. Go for the big one then we’ll go for the small ones.”

Tad was dead on every time! When I cast he would tell me to recast the instant my fly would pass the fish. I didn’t even know my bait had past the fish yet but he did. Many times I would catch the fish on the first cast if it was an accurate cast but no matter what the fish was always right where he said it was. It was an unbelievable experience and one that everyone that likes to fish should try.

If you want to fish with Tad or one of his guides you can contact Tad Howard at 303.325.5515 or EMAIL Tad.

Jerry would have loved it as we did and I can say for sure he was right there with us the entire time.

Fun Day for Kids at Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park

Jun 23rd 09

filed under: Fun Things to Do

Breckenridge

Breckenridge

Sunday for Father’s Day we were looking for fun things to do with the kids so we all agreed to head up from Parker to Breckenridge for a day at the Peak 8 Fun Park. It turned out to be a great fun day for all the kids and parents.

VIDEO BELOW! Garrett our 4 year old said the Alpine Slide was waiting for him and only him. Since he’s 4 years old he rides the slide with me which means FREE and we like FREE in our house. So for $25 for three rides Garrett and I hit the sled and plowed down full speed. He giggled the entire way. Loved it! Take the chairlift up to the top then choose your sled. They have three tracks to choose from and they are all pretty much the same. He sat between my legs and we were off. Go try it I highly recommend it.

We also purchased tickets for him to climb the Rock Wall and the Sky Fly Power Trampoline. He was so exited that he climbed the rock wall for the first time ever and made it to the top to ring the siren. He was very proud of himself and he let us know so. Then over tot he Power Tramp as we call it and he was well over the top of the bungee bars in seconds. Weighing in at just under 40 pounds allowed him to fly about as high as the ropes would allow. No complaints from him though. Macey our 1 year old watched and enjoyed the entire day from the comforts of her BOB stroller eating snacks and protesting when she was ready to stretch her legs.

Plan on $100 for the day depending on how many kids and what they want to participate it. REMEMBER to take your season pass if you have one to reap a good discount at the ticket window. Best place to park is down by the gondola in town and hitch a ride on the bus that will drop you off right at the ticket counter. The staff is friendly and the equipment appears to be in good shape.

Parker Days Festival a Great Time!

Parker Days Festival 2009

Parker Colorado-Parker Days Summer Festival

If you didn’t make it out to the Parker Days Festival/Carnival you missed out. We did choose the $25 all day pass as I didn’t want to go back and buy tickets all afternoon.I was a little disappointed with the rain and lightening each afternoon but it really didn’t start until just about the time we were ready to leave.  I haven’t seen it this crowed in years. There were by far more people here this year than last. Maybe because fewer people are traveling because for the economy? Just guessing.

Our 4 year old had a blast and so did I. I think we rode every ride my son was tall enough to get on a minimum of two times. We did only ride the rides on the kids side and not the big kids section as my son calls it. “The rides on the hill are for big kids Dad” as I was informed several times. He really enjoyed the “cliff jump” over in the O’Brien Park area near the stage. $10 for 7 jumps and that was all he wanted to do most of the day.

My only complaint was that there seemed to be a lot of extra rides outside the main area that you had to shell out cash for. Tickets and wrist bands didn’t apply to these separate venues so parents were forced to pay as you go for the kids to indulge.

Parker Colorado is Reaching out to Tokyo Joes

Jun 5th 09

filed under: Fun Things to Do

Ok restaurateurs get off your butts and get into the Parker, Colorado real estate market. The residents here are craving good food and healthy eats. We do have our local favorites but there isn’t enough selection. I’m going to list a few requests below and hopefully someone will act on this.

“We need more GOOD restaurants in Parker, Colorado.”

I would really like to see Tokyo Joe’s in town soon. I always hear rumors but that’s all they are. For me to get my combo bowl with veggies and spring rolls I have to drive into the DTC or Park Meadows. Unacceptable Tokyo Joe’s! We have a great area already built and ready to go for you in the Super Target parking lot on Twenty Mile Road. The traffic is great and if we can support Target, Walmart and Costco we can support you too.

I would like a Family Style restaurant too. We have Texas Road House which is great but we need another choice. We lost Roman Villas so another great italian restaurant would be nice and I could even handle an Olive Garden but would prefer something else.

Oh yes and the final choice would be a cool Cajun dive with real Cajun food. I’m originally from the south and need HOT and spicy seafood on a weekly basis. I’m not saying more frozen box seafood precooked meals. I want fresh and we all want good.

If you have a suggestion or want to add to the list just make a comment on the blog below and I will make sure we get it added to the list.

Mount Falcon a great place for kids and families.

May 24th 09

filed under: Fun Things to Do

img_5156_edited

Hiking or biking Mount Falcon another great way to spend the day with your kids. If you are looking for fun things to do around Denver with your kids this is an easy hiking area [from the top] and easily accessible. I’ll discuss the mountain biking below.

Mount Falcon Recreation Map.

Mt Falcon Views

Mt Falcon Views

Directions: To get there take US Hwy 285 [Hampden Ave] South out of Denver to Right on Parmalee Gulch Road. Follow Parmalee Gulch about 2.5 miles to Picutis and follow the signs to Mount Falcon Park.

What to expect: The trails up top are wide and easily accessed with strollers with large wheels. There are plenty of picnic areas and overlooks with expansive views. This is an ideal place for small kids and I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old that loved it.

Sites: There are ruins of an old castle and even the spot where a dreamer even wanted to build a summer residence for the President of the US. A summer White House of sorts.

Mountain biking Mt Falcon: To mountain bike Mt. Falcon I suggest starting at the east entrance down in Morrison and climbing up to the top. After a good ride up you are rewarded with a nice downhill back to your car. It’s pretty challenging and I really like this trail. It’s much smoother than a lot of the Front Range single tracks that we have. The trail is passable which makes me happy since I hate bike hiking. I at least want to think I can pass all sections without getting off my bike and this trail offers that.

If you want more details about Mount Falcon or just want to ask me a question about my experiences there Call or EMAIL me Steven Beam at 303-941-4663.  Steven is a REALTOR living and working in Douglas County Colorado.
